According to a report by The Daily Post on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alwan Hassan, has strongly criticized former Minister of Transportation and 2027 presidential hopeful, Chibuike Amaechi, over remarks that his wife, Judith Amaechi, is the financial backbone of their family.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, recently appeared on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, where he was asked to clarify the source of his wealth.

In response, he praised his wife’s entrepreneurial spirit, stating that her business ventures predate his time in public office and are a major source of their household income.

Reacting to the statement during an interview on the same network, Hassan argued that such a revelation disqualifies Amaechi from seeking Nigeria’s highest office.

He stated that a man who openly admits to being financially dependent on his wife is not fit to lead the nation.

“We cannot hand over this country to someone being fed by his wife,” Hassan said. “We want a leader who is fully in charge of his home, not one whose wife runs the affairs.”

He further questioned Amaechi’s ability to take charge of national leadership if he is not, in Hassan’s view, the leader of his own home.

“Someone said on this same platform that his wife is an entrepreneur and the breadwinner. That’s not what Nigeria needs. We need a man who is capable and self-reliant,” Hassan insisted.

He concluded by saying Nigerians will vote for a “complete man,” not one “being taken care of by his wife.
