Hakeem Baba Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Tinubu, has stated that it would be a mistake for the president to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima or abandon the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with AIT from from 30:26, Ahmed said Vice President Shettima is the highest-ranking official from the northern region in the current government, while President Tinubu comes from the southern part of Nigeria.
Ahmed said the Muslim-Muslim ticket was a major factor that helped President Tinubu win the 2023 election. He said if Tinubu “jettisons” the Muslim-Muslim ticket and pick a Christian running mate from the north in 2027 it would create problems for him.
In Ahmed’s words: “If he wants to drop him because he believes that the north represents a big challenge and he has to tinker with faith and geography, then you have a problem. You now jettison the Muslim-Muslim ticket first and that is a big problem for him because that is what gave him power in the first place”
