Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned Festus Keyamo and Professor Chidi Odinkalu to stay away from his political journey, as reported by Vanguard on Tuesday, 2 September, 2025.
Jonathan’s reaction came through his brother, Robert Azibaola.
In a recent statement, Azibaola said it was not the business of the two lawyers to interfere in Jonathan’s plans.
He stressed that Jonathan remains constitutionally qualified to run for the presidency in 2027 if he chooses.
Azibaola reminded Keyamo and Odinkalu that all three of them are lawyers and were pro-democracy activists in the 1990s.
He, however, claimed he was more active than both of them combined.
He added that Jonathan has many senior advocates and legal experts who guide him, and therefore does not need outside advice.
He cautioned the two lawyers not to offer unsolicited legal opinions.
According to him, Jonathan has access to experienced advisers who give him sound and professional counsel.
He explained that any decision by Jonathan not to contest would not be based on lack of qualification but on personal choice.
Azibaola dismissed their warnings as irrelevant and unnecessary.
He said their views do not matter to Jonathan’s plans and advised them not to waste time repeating such arguments.
He also suggested that if they wanted clarity, he could arrange a meeting to educate them on existing court judgments, some of which involved the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Do not offer legal advice where none is solicited. GEJ (PDP) has numerous, more cerebral, more experienced SANs at his disposal that give him sound, unblemished, professional legal advice only. GEJ is 100% constitutionally and legally qualified to contest, if he chooses to. If he chooses not to yield to the overwhelming calls to run, it would not be because he is not qualified,” he said.
