Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Public Communications to President Bola Tinubu, has accused former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi of hypocrisy over his criticisms of politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a recent interview, Bwala claimed that despite Obi’s vocal disapproval of party defections, he is currently involved in talks to become a vice-presidential candidate within a new political coalition.
Bwala said, “Peter Obi: When people change party, he abuses them, but he is currently discussing how he will become the vice-presidential candidate. He has been holding meetings about becoming the vice-presidential candidate, and he has accepted it.”
This statement comes amid growing political realignments as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections. Peter Obi, who enjoyed significant youth support in the 2023 presidential race, has often criticized politicians who switch parties, accusing them of lacking principles and political consistency.
However, Bwala argues that Obi’s current actions contradict his public stance, suggesting that the politician’s behavior is driven by personal ambition rather than principle.
The accusation has sparked debate among political analysts and supporters, with many questioning whether Obi’s reported negotiations reflect strategic political moves or a sign of desperation.
As of now, Peter Obi has not publicly addressed these claims. The topic remains widely discussed across various media platforms.
Bwala, who previously supported Atiku Abubakar before aligning with President Tinubu, has been vocal in highlighting what he calls inconsistencies and double standards within the opposition.
