Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down, citing his prolonged tenure and ineffective handling of the Gaza crisis. In an interview with Channel 12, reported by the Jerusalem Post, Bennett outlined a bold proposal aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict and securing the release of hostages held by Hamas.
Bennett suggested that Israel should pursue a comprehensive agreement with Hamas: in exchange for the release of all Israeli hostages, Israel would fully withdraw from the Gaza Strip. “Given the terrible stalemate, I propose we make a full deal — release all hostages and deploy the IDF only along Gaza’s perimeter,” Bennett stated. His proposal marks a dramatic shift from the current administration’s military-focused strategy within Gaza.
He further argued that the complete defeat of Hamas should be left to a future government, emphasizing that the immediate priority must be securing the safe return of hostages and stabilizing the borders. “Defeating Hamas should be left to the next government,” he asserted.
Bennett also issued a direct challenge to Netanyahu’s leadership, saying, “Twenty years in power is unhealthy.” He added, “The people want peace. They want a government that manages the country properly.”
