According to a report from The Sun on Sunday, June 8, Tanko Umar Yakasai, the Director-General of Tinubu Support Group (TSG), expressed confidence that the coalition aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections will falter, particularly due to their tarnished track records.
In a press briefing held in Abuja, Yakasai stated, “The opposition has repeatedly let Nigerians down. Their leaders are known for scandals, like the $16 billion power infrastructure funds that went missing during their tenure.” He referred to the Halliburton scandal, which implicated several politicians and highlighted systemic corruption. “These are the same individuals who now seek to reclaim power, hoping that Nigerians have forgotten their past misdeeds,” he added.

Yakasai stressed that the current administration is committed to healing the wounds left by previous governance. “We are here to restore trust and rebuild our institutions. The APC is dedicated to clearing up the mess left by the 16 years of misrule under the Peoples Democratic Party,” he asserted. He criticized the opposition’s attempts to form coalitions, stating, “It’s easy for them to come together out of self-interest, but when it comes time to govern, their inherent disagreements will surface.”
He addressed concerns regarding the potential for a one-party state in Nigeria, asserting that political diversity is essential for democracy. “Defections occur in all parties; this is part of the political landscape. The APC is not immune to this, and it reflects a healthy democratic process,” Yakasai explained.
Looking ahead, Yakasai called on Nigerians to support the ongoing reforms, emphasizing that patience is vital for achieving lasting progress. “As we continue these initiatives, the benefits will become evident in infrastructure, health, and education,” he concluded. “We will not allow the opposition to return to power; they have shown their true colors, and Nigerians will not be fooled again.”
