A prominent Rivers State statesman, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, has launched a severe condemnation of Nigeria’s judiciary and National Assembly, accusing both of failing in their constitutional duties during the recent political instability in Rivers State.

In a video clip from 13:18 circulated by SYMFONI on its YouTube channel on Sunday, October 12, 2025, the statesman declared that the judiciary was merely pretending to be asleep and asserted that the country effectively did not possess a functioning National Assembly.

Sara-Igbe specifically criticized the federal legislature, arguing that it had erred by getting involved in the state crisis in a manner that violated the constitution.

He emphasized that the constitution, particularly Section 114, makes it clear that the National Assembly lacks the power to remove a state governor.

By their actions, he maintained, the lawmakers had betrayed their Oath of Office. He concluded that both the judiciary and the National Assembly were in a state of comatose, only feigning inactivity.

To illustrate his point about judicial inaction, he noted that 12 governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the imposition of an emergency rule in Rivers State, yet their case remained unheard seven months later.

Sara-Igbe said, “The constitution is very clear in Section 114 that the National Assembly doesn’t have power in removing a governor. With what they have done they betrayed the oat of Office they swore. We don’t have a National Assembly, we don’t have a judiciary, they are in comatose and pretending to be sleeping. 12 governors went to supreme court over emergency rule, 7 months after they can’t hear them.”

That emergency rule, which led to the temporary suspension of democratic institutions in the state, has since been terminated.

A number of PDP governors had indeed gone to the Supreme Court to contest the federal government’s authority to suspend a democratically elected state structure, but the court is yet to rule on the matter.

Following the end of the crisis period, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara signaled a commitment to moving forward with peace and reconciliation.

The governor encapsulated this new resolve by stating that the costliest peace is better than the cheapest war, indicating a preference for dialogue and unity over continued political conflict. See, More, Here>>>
