Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of democracy, the rule of law, and efforts to keep the state stable among its peers. He highlighted that, despite ten other states conducting elections with the 2023 voter register without consequences, his administration remains focused on ensuring a fair and peaceful electoral process.
He reassured that his government would fully support the electoral body in conducting a free and fair election, urging citizens to follow the legal process and avoid violence. He emphasized that those seeking to incite violence should not be given the opportunity. After the electoral body completes its task, Fubara assured that the government would take over and finish the process, reaffirming his commitment to stability and proper governance in the coming days.
He said in a live coverage by Symfoni from 5:50, “I want to thank you for supporting democracy. I want to thank you for assuring that there is the rule of law. I want to thank you for sticking your leg out to make sure that our state still stands among the committee of states. Ten states have conducted elections with the 2023 voters register. These ten states did not receive any repercussions. I don’t know why, but I want to assure you that as a government, we are going to support the electoral body to conduct a free and fair election for everyone. Follow the process—no violence.
They are seeking for violence, they are looking to destroy things—don’t give them the opportunity. Go and do what the law says you should do by the recent law and leave the rest. We will take it from there. When the electoral body finishes its own part, the government will also take it from that point and finish its work. And the process will continue with the special grace of God in a few days coming. So, I want to thank our leaders, our very respected leaders, our true leaders that are with us.”
