Former Niger Delta agitator, Mujahid Asari Dokubo has said global politics and international conflicts are largely driven by the control of crude oil, stressing that the Niger Delta remains strategically important because of its vast oil resources.

Dokubo made the remarks during an interview from 1:32 on SYMFONI TV while addressing members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC). He pointed to developments in different parts of the world as evidence that oil continues to shape political decisions and power struggles among nations.

“Today you have seen global politics. You have seen the politics in Venezuela, you have seen the politics that is going on in the Middle East. It’s all about oil and we have it in abundance,” Dokubo said.

According to him, countries rich in oil often find themselves at the center of global attention, influence, and sometimes instability, not by coincidence but because of the strategic value of the resource. He argued that events in oil-producing regions across the world show that crude oil remains a key factor in international relations and economic power.

Addressing Ijaw youths, Dokubo urged them to understand the global context of the Niger Delta struggle, noting that oil wealth places the region in a position of importance within Nigeria and beyond. He warned that without political awareness and unity, oil-bearing communities could continue to suffer marginalisation despite their contributions to the national economy.

The former agitator emphasized that the Niger Delta’s challenges should not be viewed in isolation, but as part of a broader global competition for resources. He called on youth leaders to educate themselves on international politics and energy economics to better articulate their demands. See_More…
