In a video aired on Facebook from 27:07, a prominent Kalabari leader, Asari Dokubo, weighed in on the recent altercation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Navy officer A.M. Yerima. Dokubo stated that Wike holds a higher position not only than the officer involved but also above whoever issued the officer’s orders, including the Chief of Naval Staff. He emphasized that in matters of governance, Wike’s authority supersedes that of the military hierarchy.
Further elaborating on his position, Dokubo argued that Wike did nothing wrong by intervening in the situation, asserting that the only fault lay in the minister’s choice of words during the exchange. He maintained that in the established hierarchy of governance, the Chief of Naval Staff does not feature as a political authority, suggesting that Wike’s role as a minister places him above such military officers in administrative ranking.
According to him, “The minister, I did not see anything wrong with him going there. The only place I have a quarrel with him was the language he used when he was leaving. Nobody can accept that affront from somebody who by law ought to see you as a superior. There is hierarchy in governance; there’s hierarchy in government. Wike is higher than him, Wike is even higher than the man who gave him the order, Wike is even higher than the Chief of Naval Staff. In the hierarchy of governance, he does not appear the Chief of Naval Staff is not there, the Chief of Army Staff is not there. This is a democratic government.” View, More,
