A security intelligence expert, Yahuza Getso has questioned repeated official claims that notorious bandit leaders, including Bello Turji, are genuinely being hunted by Nigerian security agencies, describing such assertions as misleading.
Speaking during an interview from 11:27 on News Central TV, Getso expressed strong disagreement with the narrative that Turji and other high-profile bandit kingpins are firmly on the security agencies’ wanted list. “We keep saying that Turji and others are on the wanted list, but I disagree,” he said, insisting that there is a disconnect between public statements and realities on the ground.
According to Getso, if these individuals were truly treated as top-priority fugitives, the level of operational pressure mounted against them would have produced tangible results by now. He argued that continued attacks, kidnappings and the open movement of bandit leaders across communities raise serious questions about the sincerity and effectiveness of the so-called manhunt.
The security expert noted that wanted persons are typically pursued through sustained intelligence gathering, coordinated operations, financial tracking and community engagement. However, he maintained that the persistence of banditry in parts of the North-West and North-Central regions suggests that such measures are either weakly applied or deliberately undermined.
Getso also warned that constantly branding criminals as “wanted” without corresponding arrests risks eroding public confidence in the security architecture. He said citizens are increasingly sceptical because the same names have dominated security briefings for years without decisive outcomes. View, More,
