According to a recent interview from 5:57 shared by News Central TV, PDP Chieftain, Adetokunbo Pearse, has shed new light on the internal battles shaking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking on the growing tension surrounding the expulsion of key figures, he revealed the decisive moment that forced the party to take a firm stand.

Pearse explained that while the PDP had long exercised patience in dealing with internal disagreements, the actions of former Rivers State governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, eventually crossed a boundary the party could no longer overlook. According to him, party leaders made multiple attempts to reconcile with Wike, offering room for dialogue and compromise in the hope of preserving unity.

However, he stated that the turning point came when Wike reportedly demanded that the party should not present a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections as a condition for peace. In Pearse’s words, “When Wike said finally that he would make peace with the party only if the PDP agrees not to field a presidential candidate in 2027, that’s when everybody drew the line.”

Pearse emphasized that such a demand was viewed not only as a direct attack on the party’s democratic structure but also as a threat to Nigeria’s multiparty system. The PDP, he noted, realized that conceding to such conditions would undermine its existence and its role as an opposition party.

He added that the party’s eventual decision to expel those undermining its unity was driven by self-preservation and a commitment to safeguarding democratic competition ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. View, More,
