Political Analyst and legal practitioner, Barrister Darlington Agomuo has faulted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a troubling silence following the bombing of an ISIS hideout in Sokoto State by the current United States President, Donald Trump.
Agomuo made the remarks during an interview from 9:45 on Voice of the People TV, where he questioned the President’s failure to address Nigerians after such a significant security development on Nigerian soil. According to him, the absence of an official statement from the President raises serious concerns about leadership, accountability, and transparency.
“Please, what explanation can anybody tell me that will make sense to me. Up to today, he has not made a statement,” Agomuo said.
The political analyst contrasted Tinubu’s response with how former U.S. President Barack Obama handled the operation that led to the killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. He emphasized that leadership during critical security operations requires direct involvement and clear communication with citizens.
“When America wanted to take down Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, Obama was in the situation room. He viewed the whole scenario. He watched it from the beginning to the end,” Agomuo stated.
He argued that Nigerians deserved to hear directly from their President on an operation that involved foreign military action within the country. According to him, silence in such circumstances creates room for speculation, misinformation, and public distrust.
Agomuo further noted that Nigeria’s sovereignty and security architecture should compel the President to brief the nation, explain the circumstances surrounding the strike, and clarify the level of Nigeria’s involvement or consent. He stressed that national security issues should never be treated casually or left to unofficial narratives.
