A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has made bold claims about the 2023 presidential election results while expressing confidence that an opposition coalition will unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

In a candid interview from 23:20 on Channels TV, Okonkwo disputed the official narrative of the last presidential election and painted an optimistic picture for opposition forces in the next electoral cycle.

“In 2023, we won 12 states, including FCT. We didn’t have a governor, we didn’t have money. We got members in all geopolitical zones, including FCT and that is despite the technically glitched election, technically glitched results, which, if it had not been technically glitched, we would have gotten more. No other party got more than 12 states,” Okonkwo claimed.

He then turned his attention to prospects for the 2027 elections, suggesting that opposition unity would prove decisive. “So, coming now in 2027, where the whole coalition, opposition leaders, are coming into one, APC is gone, Tinubu is gone back to Bourdillon,” the ADC chieftain stated, referencing the Lagos residence associated with the president.

Okonkwo concluded with a cryptic reference to recent events in southeastern Nigeria. “What happened on December 31st in the southeast has just made Tinubu’s flight taken off from Abuja and it is nearing Lagos,” he said, though he did not elaborate on the specific incident he was referencing.

The comments reflect the opposition’s growing confidence as various parties explore coalition arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections.
