A US-based humanitarian, Alex Barbir, in an interview with News Central TV correspondent has said that the Nigerian government must ensure lasting security in Yelewata, Benue State, as he warned that any future violence would be their responsibility.

He urged the Federal and State Governments to provide security for the people of Yelewata so that they won’t be attacked again and their houses burned down.

While talking in the video, he said, “If something happens in Yelewata after this rebuilding, the government is liable. The blood is on your hands, we’ve come in good faith, with good heart to help the people — to rebuild where nobody is helping.

“But you’re responsible to secure your own people. And there is security here now, but we can’t see the thing leave in one month or two months. I can’t come back and see that Yelewata has been burned and killed again.

“If it happens, you are liable. It is your job to protect them. And so I challenge you and beg you to do your job. The US government knows what’s been done here.

“They know the attack, they know that I am here, they know that we have rebuilt Yelewata and they support me. Congressman Riley Moore supports what we are doing. He knows…he has the geographical coordinates of Yelewata and we are all monitoring what’s happening here.

“So please protect your people, do not let anything happen to Yelewata again. See_More…
