Political analyst Professor Sadiq Abba has stated that he would celebrate if the United States imposes sanctions on Nigerian leaders over allegations of tolerating religious persecution.
Speaking during an interview from 36:17 with Daily Trust, Professor Abba expressed unconventional support for potential U.S. visa restrictions. “If they ban Nigerians, we celebrate. I’ll go to the masjid to say Alhamdulillah. Let them stop Nigerians from going to America at least our money will be safe. We will be able to see our leaders during holidays because if there is a holiday, they will all rush to America. Now, with the visa ban, they won’t go. So basically, as far as I’m concerned, the visa ban is a blessing in disguise for Nigeria and Nigerians—not for the Nigerian elite and not for Nigerians in power,” he said.
The professor argued that Nigeria should not fear American sanctions, stating that diplomatic power remains relative rather than absolute.
Professor Abba noted that even small nations successfully challenge American positions while insisting that Nigeria should not consider itself an exception. He called on the Nigerian government to demonstrate courage, capacity, and sincerity in addressing the American government. View, More,
