According to a report by Sky News, on Tuesday January 6, 2025, President Donald Trump declared Tuesday that Operation Absolute Resolve demonstrates American military supremacy beyond question: “The United States proved once again that we have the most powerful, most lethal, most sophisticated and most fearsome, it’s a fearsome military, on planet Earth, and it’s not even close”.
Speaking to House Republicans at Washington’s Kennedy Center, Trump emphasized his longstanding conviction about American dominance: “You know, I’ve been saying it for a long time—nobody can take us”.The president added: “Nobody could have done that. Nobody has our weapons. Nobody has the quality of our weapons”, referencing Saturday’s predawn extraction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from his heavily fortified Caracas compound.
The mission—described as “the most audacious military action in either of Trump’s terms”—involved coordination of thousands of troops, hundreds of aircraft elements launched from 20 different land and sea bases, all precisely timed to achieve total surprise. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth characterized the operation as “one of the most stunning, effective and powerful displays of American military might and competence in American history”.
Hours before Trump’s triumphant speech, Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores pleaded not guilty in Manhattan federal court to narco-terrorism charges. As deputy U.S. Marshals escorted him from the courtroom, Maduro declared: “I am a kidnapped president. I am a prisoner of war”.
At least 56 military personnel died defending Maduro: Venezuela confirmed 24 security officers killed, while Cuba disclosed 32 of its Revolutionary Armed Forces and Ministry of the Interior operatives perished during the assault. Trump acknowledged the casualties Sunday: “A lot of Cubans were killed yesterday. There was a lot of death on the other side. No death on our side”.
