People’s Redemption Party chairman and former permanent secretary Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed has said he doubts President Bola Tinubu will have any credible record to show to Nigerians when he seeks reelection in 2027, citing what he called a complete failure to improve national security.

Speaking on Symfoni TV from 7:22, Baba Ahmed said insecurity across the country has worsened steadily under the current administration. He pointed to 13 attacks on military bases recorded so far in 2026 and said the armed forces are now reacting to assaults instead of preventing them.

He described a situation where bandits operate freely, communities are being deserted, and the number of people in internally displaced camps continues to rise. Baba Ahmed argued that the problem has been there before Tinubu but has deepened since he took office.

He said Buhari left the military demoralized, underfunded, and poorly equipped in 2023, and Tinubu promised to reverse that decline but has not delivered. He noted that while officials regularly announce the killing of insurgents, civilian casualties and attacks on military personnel, police, and community leaders keep increasing.

He warned that parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger, and the North Central zone have come under pressure in the last year, suggesting that weak borders and a defensive security posture have created openings for foreign interests from the Sahel and beyond.

In his words, “And I am wondering what he would say to Nigerians when he now begins to campaign for 2027. Because clearly, he has absolutely nothing to say to us that will assure us that if we give him another four years, he will secure this country.”
