According to a report by Channels Television on Saturday, November 29, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a new list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, expanding the ongoing reconstitution of Nigeria’s diplomatic corps. The transmission, conveyed through two separate letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, marks the second batch of nominations submitted within a week. The President urged lawmakers to review and confirm the candidates without delay as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s foreign representation.
The latest submission contains 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees, reflecting a deliberate blend of professionals and prominent public figures. Four women appear on the career list, while six women are included among the non-career nominees, signalling an increased emphasis on gender representation across diplomatic postings.
The non-career list features several high-profile names drawn from politics, public service and governance. Figures such as Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia, former presidential aide Reno Omokri from Delta, former INEC Chairman Mahmud Yakubu, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo and former Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi are among those selected. Other nominees include former Katsina House of Assembly Speaker Tasiu Musa Maigari, former Plateau Commissioner Yakubu N. Gambo and a former Deputy Executive Secretary of UBEC.
Additional non-career nominees consist of former Plateau senator Nora Ladi Daduut, former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode and Anambra lawyer Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu. The list further includes former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi, former Lagos Commissioner Lola Akande, former Adamawa senator Grace Bent, ex-Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo and former Ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu from Benue.
The career cadre comprises seasoned diplomats such as Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu, Yakubu Nyaku Danladi, Miamuna Ibrahim Besto, Musa Musa Abubakar and Syndoph Paebi Endoni. Also included are Chima Geoffrey Lioma David, Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, Abimbola Samuel Reuben, Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah, Hamza Mohammed Salau and several serving ambassadors with longstanding foreign missions experience. Once confirmed, the nominees are expected to assume postings in countries where Nigeria maintains strategic economic, political and security partnerships.
