A cousin to former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, Don Pedro Obaseki, has revealed that the mob who attacked him on Sunday morning completely stripped him naked during the assault, though he expressed relief that the most humiliating moments were not recorded and shared online.
Speaking during an interview from 9:38 with News Central TV, he described the severity of the attack. “They actually took off my underpants, so I was naked—that is, in my Adam state. I was happy that they weren’t—didn’t record those ones. I think I would have been too traumatized now, but I had to fight. That was when they used canes on my back until they got back my underpants, which was like a tight boxer, before they dragged me to the palace of the Oba. I had to be brave, but at the same time I had to be wise,” he said.
Don Pedro revealed that he began pleading with his attackers as they brought him to the palace. He expressed gratitude for intervention from prominent Nigerians, including former presidents, ministers, and members of the diaspora community, whose actions helped bring attention to his situation.
He also linked some of his attackers to previous mob incidents in Edo State, alleging a pattern of organized violence involving the same individuals. ”I know at least the leaders, about seven or eight of them. I know them. We know them. Everybody knows them. If you saw the mob attack on Mowaa, many of them were also part of this setup. So they kept saying that I was brought—I was asked to be brought to the palace,” he stated.
