Former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, has continued to speak publicly about his years of legal and political battles, making further allegations involving his family, asset ownership, and actions he said were taken against his son.
Maina made the remarks while receiving the Rule of Law and Courage Award from the Garki Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). His statements were contained in a video shared by TV Platinum on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Speaking from 7:53 during the event, Maina referred to his family background and citizenship status, stating, “My son is a born American citizen. My father was an ambassador. Nigerians know my father.” He further spoke about his inherited assets, saying, “When my father died, me alone, I inherited more than 12 properties.”
Maina questioned allegations made against him in relation to asset ownership. “They say miners stole money. I don’t understand,” he said. He went on to reference properties linked to his family history, stating, “A property that I was born in, my father born in that property, was marked and said that Maina.”
He alleged that properties of historical significance were also listed in connection with his case. “They went to Emirs Palace, that has been there for more than 500 years, they marked it,” he said. According to Maina, these actions were targeted. “This should tell you that this is just about fighting me,” he stated.
Maina also recalled events during a previous administration, linking them to his role in public fund recovery. “Because remember, the seventh senate asked Jonathan to choose between Maina and the senate,” he said. He added, “Because I was recovering money for him, for his government and assets.”
He went on to name individuals and institutions he claimed were involved in actions against him. “But EFCC, under Magu, with one Habibu Aliyu, one Mohammed Koje, one Ibrahim, they were people of Malami at that time. And they were being used,” Maina said.
The former task force chairman further alleged that his son was targeted during the period. “They took my son and put him in a dark room, brutalized him,” he said. He identified an officer by name, stating, “One DCP Kolo, took him to SARS, brutalized my son.”
Maina claimed that the actions were directed at his son rather than himself. “Because they know that they would dare not come and do such a, do you understand? To me, because they know me,” he said. “So they took my son away. I didn’t know where my son was.”
He went on to make a further allegation, saying, “What did he do? You shot him 57 bullets.” Maina called for verification of the claim, stating, “I would like the members of the press to go to SARS now, please. The vehicle is there. Count the number of bullet holes.”
Maina also narrated events he said occurred shortly before the incident involving his son. “And I was lucky, because two weeks before then, I went to greet Abba Abacha,” he said. According to him, a vehicle played a role in what followed. “There was this vehicle since 1996. I asked him, I said, Abba, this vehicle, allow me to go and see how I can fix it to assist me. Because I’m getting threats,” he stated.
He said permission was granted and repairs were made. “He said, OK, you can go and fix it. We went and fixed the tires and everything,” Maina said. Concluding this part of his account, Maina stated, “That was what saved my child. He’s my only son.” See More
