According to a report by Leadership News on Wednesday December 17, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, lawmaker representing Abia North in the Senate, has dismissed claims by his Abia South counterpart, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, that President Bola Tinubu is destined to lose the 2027 presidential election.
Kalu stated that the assertion does not reflect the current political realities across the country and does not align with the existing structure of the opposition ahead of the next general election.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu said the opposition parties lack the required organisation, nationwide presence, and political coordination needed to challenge President Tinubu in 2027.
He maintained that electoral success at the presidential level depends on strong party machinery, internal unity, and sustained grassroots engagement, which he said are presently absent among opposition groups.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was reacting to comments made by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday.
During the programme, Abaribe argued that President Tinubu did not genuinely win the 2023 presidential election and claimed that Nigerians would reject him in 2027 due to economic hardship and rising living costs across the country.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu dismissed Abaribe’s position, saying it was based on personal opinion rather than political facts.
He explained that elections are decided through legally recognised processes and institutions, adding that the outcome of the 2023 presidential election had already been settled within the framework of the law.
He further noted that political debates should focus on governance and development rather than revisiting settled electoral outcomes.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu also addressed issues of economic challenges and insecurity raised in the discussion, stating that insecurity remains a major factor affecting productivity and economic stability.
He explained that farmers and local producers are directly affected by security challenges, which in turn impact food supply and raw material availability for industries.
According to him, “Security is breeding in our micro-economy. Because of insecurity, people cannot go to the farm and produce the raw materials that sustain us as people.”
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu further spoke on the importance of respecting democratic institutions, particularly the judiciary.
He stressed that political actors must uphold the rule of law regardless of personal experiences or disagreements with court decisions.
He noted that confidence in the judicial system is essential for democracy to function properly and for disputes to be resolved peacefully within legal boundaries.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, lawmaker representing Abia North in the Senate, said the focus of political leaders should remain on strengthening institutions, addressing security concerns, and improving economic conditions rather than making early predictions about future elections.
He reiterated that political contests are determined by organisation, leadership, and public engagement over time, not by isolated statements or television debates.
They put me in prison for doing nothing, and I can never say that I have committed any offence. But I never discussed the judge who imprisoned me. I believe that the judiciary is supreme. The Nigerian judiciary remains one of the best in the world, no matter how bad they may seem,” he said. View, More,
