According to a report by TVC News From 08:39, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a member of the House of Representatives, expressed apprehension regarding the level of political backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kano State. Discussing the intersection of regional instability and upcoming electoral cycles, the lawmaker highlighted how current safety concerns might influence future political outcomes.

While detailing the electoral landscape of his home state, he said, “The whole of my state, Kano, with 44 local governments, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last election won only in three local governments.”

Doguwa argued that these previous election results serve as a critical signal for leadership to prioritise the grievances of the populace, particularly regarding the surge in insecurity.

He pointed out that numerous communities are currently grappling with the realities of banditry, abductions, and violent raids, which have significantly disrupted the lives of local residents.

The legislator emphasised that it is the duty of political representatives to vocalise these security hurdles honestly, as they must eventually face their constituents to seek mandates in future polls.

He observed that the persistent threats in rural districts have crippled essential sectors like agriculture, commerce, and communal worship. Consequently, there is a growing demand among the citizenry for more robust and decisive government intervention to restore order.

Regarding the legislative role in these matters, Doguwa clarified that while the National Assembly is tasked with sponsoring motions and drafting legislation to represent public interests, the actual implementation of security measures and law enforcement rests with the executive branch.

He acknowledged that while the government and various security outfits are currently engaged in efforts to stabilise the region, more aggressive strategies are required to effectively combat the menace of kidnapping and banditry.
