Political analyst Professor Sadiq Abba has alleged that the United States is uncomfortable with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political assertiveness and the manner in which he ascended to power.

Speaking during an interview from 44:04 with Daily Trust, Professor Abba characterized Tinubu’s approach as unprecedented in Nigerian politics. “Somebody, for the first time, said, ‘It is my turn. It is me.’ It’s a political statement, and he made it. America is not comfortable with such people. They are highly opinionated. Tinubu looks so simple and humble—highly opinionated, very stubborn. You may look at him as if he’s laughing. He’s not laughing. He meant it. And if America will have its way, Tinubu will end his reign today. They cannot have it. It’s Nigerians that determine—over 8 million Nigerians put Tinubu there,” he said.

Professor Abba distinguished Tinubu from previous Nigerian leaders by classifying him as the country’s first true politician to become president since independence in 1960.

The analyst argued that figures like Obafemi Awolowo, and Nnamdi Azikiwe were regional leaders elevated to national prominence rather than career politicians who systematically built power bases.

Professor Abba claimed that Tinubu’s silence in response to U.S. threats to invade Nigeria has irritated American political leadership who are more accustomed to compliant responses.  View, More,
