According to a report by The Guardian Nigeria on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has taken a swipe at former governor Peter Obi, likening him to a “League 1 player without a club” while responding to Obi’s remarks following the just-concluded Anambra governorship election.

According to a video shared on X (formally Twitter) by The Guardian Nigeria on Tuesday, Nov. 11, Soludo mocked what he described as Obi’s failed attempt to influence the outcome of the poll through indirect campaigning and political grandstanding. According to him, despite not being on the ballot, Obi threw his full weight behind efforts to unseat him but was met with a reality check from the electorate.

“Losing is never easy, especially for someone who invested so much emotion and effort,” Soludo said. “There was one man who went everywhere campaigning as though he was the candidate his face was on every billboard, every street banner. He thought he could play the same card Ojukwu once did by raising someone’s hand and expecting Ndi Anambra to follow blindly.”

Soludo claimed that Obi organised several rallies and tours across communities, even pleading with his own people to vote against him, but the election results told a different story. “In his own community, we cleared all four wards under APGA. Out of sympathy, we even left his polling unit, thinking at least he would win there. But surprisingly, the APC defeated him even in that unit,” the governor stated.

He added that the outcome reflected the people’s rejection of Obi’s influence and tactics. “When someone sees that the people have moved on from their old politics, frustration can begin to cloud their reasoning. I saw what he said after the election, and I just laughed. Maybe it’s time to gather a few friends to help him cool off perhaps take him to relax somewhere, because the signs are showing,” Soludo quipped.

Continuing his taunt, the governor said, “We tried to coach him so he could play in League 1 after I had finished playing the World Cup. But unfortunately, he left the League injured, stranded, and without a club. It’s unfortunate, but that’s what happens when pride overshadows reality.”

Soludo further accused Obi of being responsible for the collapse of the state’s public education system during his tenure, vowing to release official records in due course.

“If you’re frustrated because someone is doing what you couldn’t even imagine, don’t take it out on the people,” he concluded. “Go home, get busy, and find something meaningful to do because constant failure and idleness can really play tricks on a man’s mind.” View, More,
