According to report by LEADERSHIP on Wednesday January 14 2026, Prince Paul Ikonne, a political leader and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has spoken about the party’s position in the South-East. He said the APC has become the top choice for politicians leaving other parties, rejecting claims that the party lacks support in the region.

In an interview, Ikonne said the people of the South-East are wise and will not repeat past mistakes. He explained that the growing number of defections to the APC shows that the party is becoming more accepted and trusted by the Igbo people.

Ikonne also reacted to recent comments made by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who criticized President Bola Tinubu. He dismissed the senator’s remarks, saying Abaribe is no longer politically strong and may struggle to win re-election in the future.
