One of the chieftains of the All Progressive Congress, APC and former Kaduna lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has reacted after the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, SCSN, said Muslims wont recognize any election conducted by the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Joash Amupitan.

The reaction of Senator Shehu Sani was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on Friday, January 30, 2026.

According to PM NEWS, the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria said Joash Amupitan should be removed as INEC Chairman because his continued stay in office threatens the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic process.

However, Senator Shehu Sani has now shared his thoughts after the report surfaced online. In the statement that he made on his official X handle, he said threatening the INEC Chairman is not the right thing to do.

The former Kaduna lawmaker stated that Joash Amupitan should be supported to conduct a free and fair election.

Here is what Senator Shehu Sani wrote on his official X handle;

“Threats, mistrusts and casting aspersions on the INEC Chairman is unconscionable and not the way to go. What is most important is that the head of the electoral body should be tasked, monitored and supported to conduct credible and transparent elections for the sustenance of our democracy”.
