In a recent video from 3:58 shared on Symfoni TV, Peter Obi delivered a far reaching message on the need for Nigeria to rethink its approach to national development, security, and resource management. Speaking at the launch of a new book by Professor Magnus Lekara Kpakol, Obi said the country must confront long standing failures that have kept millions in poverty despite the nation’s abundance of human and natural resources.

According to Obi, “Sambisa Forest area that gives us problems, we must dismantle it and make it work for children,” stressing that areas associated with insecurity can be transformed into productive zones if leadership embraces foresight and genuine commitment. He noted that Israel, the Netherlands, and other small nations have turned limited land and resources into thriving economies, while Nigeria continues to struggle despite its vast opportunities.

Obi argued that Nigeria’s challenges are rooted in mismanagement, misplaced priorities, and a lack of capacity among those entrusted with governance. He pointed out that fertile regions across the country remain uncultivated, while nations with far less landmass export food and generate massive revenue from agriculture. He insisted that Nigeria has no reason to be the poverty capital of the world when its potential is unmatched across Africa.

He used the Niger Delta as an example of how mismanagement has destroyed environments without producing meaningful development. Obi maintained that the region deserves justice and renewal, not endless negotiations that lead nowhere. He added that lifting people out of poverty is the most effective way to reduce insecurity nationwide.
