In a recent interview from 8:31 on TVC News, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Saidu Abubakar, has defended comments made by former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi that sparked public debate, saying they were widely misunderstood. Abubakar explained that the remarks were political in nature and reflected frustration with Nigeria’s current state rather than a personal craving for power.
According to Abubakar, “Rotimi Amaechi is only saying he is hungry to change the situation we are in today,” noting that the statement should be interpreted as a call for urgent national renewal. He argued that many Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, share similar frustrations over economic hardship, insecurity, and declining public confidence in governance.
The ADC chieftain said the party views such expressions as symbolic language often used in politics to convey urgency and commitment to reform. He insisted that Amaechi’s comment was not an admission of desperation for office but an indication of dissatisfaction with the direction of the country and a desire to contribute to positive change.
Abubakar further maintained that the ADC is attracting attention because it is positioning itself as a people-driven alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stated that Nigerians are increasingly disillusioned with the ruling class and are seeking platforms that can offer practical solutions to challenges such as unemployment, insecurity, and rising living costs.
