According to a report by Viable TV From 4:55, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, declared that any individual planning to contest against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 polls is either on a self-destructive mission or seeking to impose their will on the people.

The Vice President shared these thoughts during a meeting with APC stakeholders, where he highlighted the impressive expansion and influence of the ruling party.

He pointed out that with 28 states currently under its governance, the APC has solidified its position as the fastest-growing political organisation on the continent.

Reflecting on the party’s journey, Shettima credited much of its survival and current dominance to the resilience of President Tinubu. He noted that the President remained steadfast during perilous times, organised the movement when it was hazardous to do so, and championed the cause of democracy at a time when many chose the safety of silence.

The Vice President remarked that the APC is fortunate to have Tinubu as its leader rather than its opponent. He described the president as a formidable strategist whose deep political experience serves as a protective shield for the party’s interests.

Analysing the party’s electoral history, Shettima recalled that the APC secured 21 states in 2015 based on the public’s desire for change, held 19 states in 2019, and maintained a strategic presence with 12 states in 2023. He suggested these shifts reflect the party’s ongoing evolution and its ability to learn from the political climate.

Furthermore, he cautioned that political victories are not achieved through social media trends on platforms like Facebook or Twitter. Instead, he emphasised that real winning is built on solid alliances, integrity, and public confidence. According to him, citizens align with a party because they believe in its leaders, not merely because of catchy phrases.

It was during this address that Shettima issued a stern warning: “Only a fool hellbent on a suicidal path or an outright imposter can dare to challenge President Bola in the 2027 election.”

The Vice President called for unity and discipline among party members, urging them to stay focused on the primary goal of providing quality governance to the Nigerian people. See More
