According to a report by Punch, on Thursday January 8, 2026, Idowu Fashola, an older man, has described his experience of being accused of raping a young girl who had lived with his family since she was three years old.

Before going back to live with her original parents, the daughter stayed with the family for her elementary and secondary school years.
Years later, he claimed, the girl’s relatives showed up at his house with police and accused him of rape. His arrest, incarceration, and protracted legal proceedings resulted from the claim.
Fashola clarified that following a thorough trial, the court determined that he had no case to answer because there was no proof to back up the charge. After that, he was released and found not guilty.
While recounting one of his ordeals, he stated, “On a tragic day, a police officer went from cell to cell to shoot captives. But one of their supervisors told him to stop, and he ordered those of us who were still alive to return to our cells. They came to pack the dead, which is how I survived. I appreciate God and everyone who worked to get me free.”
