Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Publicity and Communications to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revealed new details about the confrontation between Minister Nyesom Wike and military personnel over a disputed land in Abuja, stating that one of the soldiers pointed a gun at the minister during the altercation.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday from 14:54, November 12, 2025, Olayinka said the tense situation escalated despite efforts by Wike to maintain calm among the security operatives present. “The minister tried to calm people. If you listen very well, the policemen and the civil defense also got angry. They were reacting,” he said.

According to him, a Department of State Services (DSS) operative attached to Wike confronted a soldier who stood directly in front of the minister, allegedly brandishing a weapon. “One of the DSS officer had to tell him, how can you stand before the minister and you are pointing gun at him? You want to shoot him? And they were like, ah, that is an order and I have to stand here,” Olayinka narrated. He added that the scene nearly turned chaotic as tempers flared among the minister’s security details. “It will get to a level, we are all human beings. It will get to a level when somebody that you feel should reason, that should operate with a level of moral, begins to act like that. I was there. As a human being, I also got pissed off,” he said.

Condemning the soldiers’ conduct, Olayinka questioned the misuse of military personnel for private purposes. “Because you are wearing uniform, you cannot turn yourself to security guard and be guarding private property, buildings under construction. Does that mean that if your Oga is a poultry farmer, he can also send you to go and be guarding fowl?” he asked. View, More,
