Chief Executive Officer of O’NIX Group and National Chairman of the Igbo Stakeholders Forum, Prince Nixon Okwara has cautioned former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi against defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing such a move as politically damaging.

Okwara made the remarks during an interview from 9:21 on Voice of the People TV, where he assessed ongoing speculations about Obi’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to rumours that Obi might consider the ADC as an alternative platform, Okwara said such a decision would be disastrous. “Obi moving into ADC will be the worst mistake he will make. One is that the future of ADC is predetermined by its founder in the sense that it’s either Atiku or nobody,” he declared.

According to him, the ADC, though active, remains structurally tied to the interests of its founding figures, making it unsuitable for any candidate hoping to build an independent and nationally competitive campaign. He argued that any alliance or defection must be guided by a clear understanding of party ownership, power blocs, and internal democracy.

Okwara stressed that Obi, who has become a strong moral voice within Nigeria’s opposition politics, must avoid platforms where he cannot exercise genuine influence or mobilise grassroots support. He noted that a move to the ADC would not only weaken Obi’s momentum but also confuse his support base, which has been demanding stronger structures and broader coalition-building.

The Igbo Stakeholders Forum chairman added that the former governor’s political relevance depends on strategic positioning rather than hurried alliances. He urged Obi to focus on strengthening whichever platform aligns with his reformist message and national appeal. View, More,
