The Julius Abure faction of the Labour Party has criticized Peter Obi’s approach to his defection to the African Democratic Congress, suggesting it revealed his true political priorities and methods.
During an interview from 21:44 on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi described the manner of Obi’s move to ADC as evidence of calculated political maneuvering rather than principled decision-making.
“Yesterday you saw it, Mr. Peter Obi with all the South East they went before David Mark, a chairman from North Central, saying we want Igbo for presidency, forgetting it is not Igbo that formed that party. They were not the one that built that party,” Arabambi stated.
Arabambi’s criticism suggests that Obi arrived at ADC with predetermined demands and expectations, including immediate positioning for a presidential run, rather than joining as an ordinary member willing to work within existing party structures.
“But all of them went with a single request and that is what they wanted to do in Labour Party,” Arabambi continued, suggesting that similar dynamics had been at play within Labour Party before Obi’s departure.
The party chieftain went further to paint a dramatic picture of a coordinated effort to subvert the party’s original mission and values through what he described as illegitimate means.
“When we have people who want to strangulate our party, who are on a conquest to capture the soul of Labour Party and turn it into an Igbo agenda, we will reject it,” Arabambi declared emphatically.
