Lere Olayinka, the senior special adviser on media to the FCT minister and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has taken to his official X handle to react after a naval officer’s involvement in a roadside altercation led to the injury of an Anglican priest in Anambra State. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that the Priest was unjustly manhandled.
The news regarding the brutality meted out to a young Anglican priest identified as Rev. Tochukwu Adina by a naval officer whose identities were withheld in Anambra State generated mixed reactions after the reports went viral across various social media platforms.
In a twist of events, the Anglican priest, while on transit to an undisclosed location encountered armed soldiers at a checkpoint in Okpotouno in Ogbaru LGA, with the ensuing confrontation resulting in bodily injury, an act which stirred massive public condemnation.
Reacting, Lere Olayinka, the senior special adviser on media to the former governor of Rivers State and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, equally condemned the actions of the naval officer.
According to his statements, while narrating how the Anglican priest was assaulted, pointed out that justice must be served as the clergyman was unjustly manhandled. He further pointed out that the Bishop demanded for probe and possibly, sanctions.
The incident, which was widely condemned by many, underscores the need for calm in the face of provocation, however, the statements from Lere Olayinka indicated that the young naval officer might face sanctions.
