In a recent interview from 3:56 on Arise TV, Tony Ehilebo, Member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), addressed the ongoing internal conflicts within the party and the influence of key political figures on its stability. He spoke extensively on leadership, accountability, and the challenges the party faces in maintaining cohesion ahead of upcoming elections.
According to Ehilebo, “Nyesom Wike should be careful; history is not going to write itself any other way,” he warned, referring to the Federal Capital Territory Minister and former Rivers State Governor. Ehilebo argued that Wike’s actions in sustaining disputes within the PDP and influencing internal party dynamics could have lasting consequences for both the minister and the party.
Ehilebo highlighted the party’s struggles since losing elections, noting defections to rival parties like the APC and ADC. He emphasized that despite internal disagreements, the PDP must remain committed to its founding principles, particularly in promoting people-centered governance and holding the government accountable.
He also raised concerns about Nigeria’s broader governance challenges, including inefficiencies in the judiciary, failing infrastructure, and policies like subsidy removal, which he said have yet to produce meaningful benefits for ordinary citizens. According to Ehilebo, political distractions within parties, especially interference from influential individuals, risk diverting attention from these pressing national issues.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Ehilebo urged Nigerians to prioritize candidates genuinely committed to public service and transparency. He stressed that the PDP and other parties must focus on unity, accountability, and reform to strengthen democracy, rather than being consumed by internal power struggles that could undermine public confidence.
