Former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Baba Adisa Bolanta, has raised concerns about the worsening insecurity in Nigeria’s northern region, stating that many of the perpetrators are not Nigerian citizens but foreign nationals exploiting the country’s weak border control.
His statement was revealed in an interview published by NIGERIAN TRIBUNE on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
He made the statement while discussing the root causes of the prolonged violence and instability in the North.
In the interview, Bolanta explained that the security crisis is being driven by both local and foreign actors. He emphasized that Nigeria’s porous borders have allowed non-Nigerians to infiltrate the country and contribute to the chaos.
He also pointed out that several government agencies are responsible for monitoring the movement of people and goods, but their failure to act effectively has worsened the situation.
His words, “Most of the people troubling us in the core North are not Nigerians. Some are foreigners from neighbouring countries. And there are agencies responsible for monitoring the movement of people in and out of the country, and agencies responsible for regulating the inflow of goods and commodities. We must take all these into account. Some of the criminals are local, our own people. Others are foreigners taking advantage of our porous borders.” View, More,
