Former Minister of Information Lai Mohammed has stated that when he visited Bama town in Borno State on December 5, 2015, shortly after it was recovered from Boko Haram, he was shocked by what he saw. He said he felt as if he was in Afghanistan because every road sign and description he saw was written in Arabic.

In an interview from 11:21 on State Affairs show with Edmund Obilo, Mohammed said Bama had served as the headquarters of the Boko Haram caliphate at the time. He said that out of more than 600 houses in Bama, not a single one was left standing. He said Boko Haram fighters had blown up all the houses before leaving the town.

In Mohammed’s words: “When I got to Bama on the 5th of December 2015, I thought I was in Afghanistan. Not because it was a war zone, but because every road sign was in Arabic, every description was in Arabic. Because that was the headquarters of the caliphate if you recall. When I got there on the 5th of December 2015, of the over 600 houses in Bama not one was standing, they had all been blown up by the retreating Boko Haram fighters” See More
