In a recent interview from 8:50 on Symfoni TV, Mazi JCI Onyeukwu, a close ally of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, spoke on the circumstances surrounding the arrest of activists linked to a peaceful protest and reflected on Kanu’s conviction and life sentence. Onyeukwu criticised the actions of security agencies, alleging that the police prosecution appeared unprepared during court proceedings and was merely prolonging the matter at the expense of public funds.
According to Onyeukwu, “The fight we are fighting, we will get there; justice will come. Evil does not last forever.” He made the remarks while expressing confidence that injustice would not endure and that accountability would eventually prevail.
Onyeukwu explained that the defendants were arrested following a peaceful demonstration directed at the federal authorities, insisting that the protest was lawful, non-violent, and conducted with due notification to the police. He maintained that those involved neither breached the peace nor violated any restricted areas, stressing that the protest was an exercise of constitutionally guaranteed rights.
He further alleged that during the last court appearance, the police prosecution served proof of evidence on defence lawyers in open court, a development that led to the adjournment of the matter. The court, he said, subsequently ordered the prosecution to present its proposed witnesses at the next adjourned date in February 2026.
Commenting on the broader situation in the country, Onyeukwu described Nigeria as facing deep challenges related to justice, equity, and governance. He argued that suppressing peaceful dissent would only worsen public frustration, warning that no society can progress without fairness and respect for fundamental rights.
He also spoke on the morale of Nnamdi Kanu, stating that despite his conviction and life sentence, Kanu remains resolute and undeterred. Onyeukwu said Kanu has continued to urge supporters to keep faith and remain committed to peaceful advocacy.
He concluded by calling on Nigerians to remain steadfast in demanding justice, accountability, and respect for constitutional freedoms, insisting that history ultimately favours truth and justice over oppression. View, More,
