Kezie Nwadiugwu, a well-known trader in Onitsha, has called on fellow traders to obey Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to end the Monday sit-at-home order in Anambra State, according to report published by VANGUARD on Monday, 02 February 2026.
His appeal comes after Governor Soludo warned that markets that fail to reopen could face sanctions, including possible demolition.
Nwadiugwu made the statement while addressing traders who expressed fear over reopening their shops.
According to report, security agencies have been deployed to protect business owners and enforce the government’s order.
Governor Soludo had previously threatened to demolish markets that refused to comply, but Kezie believes that if traders resume business activities, such measures might be avoided.
The Onitsha trader stressed that continued closure of shops would only strengthen agitators and worsen the economic disruption in the state. He encouraged traders to act collectively and avoid unnecessary confrontation with the government.
“Let us not play into the governor’s hands by staying away today. If we open and do business, he may shelve the demolition,” Nwadiugwu said. See_More…
