A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has spoken out amid public conversations over the recognition of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s role in the construction of the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Nnewi.

The reaction followed a firm clarification by the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, which stated that Senator Ubah’s financial and material contributions to the cathedral project were properly acknowledged during the dedication of the church and were not overlooked as claimed in some quarters.

Taking to his Facebook page, Igbokwe described the controversy as unnecessary, stressing that the late senator’s impact on Nnewi remains evident and undeniable. He noted that beyond the cathedral project, Ubah played significant roles in supporting community development, religious institutions, and humanitarian causes within the town and beyond.

“The late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s legacy in Nnewi is humongous and cannot be buried,” Igbokwe wrote, showing his belief that no amount of public debate can erase the footprints the former lawmaker left behind.
