Iranian authorities have announced their intention to initiate legal proceedings against United States President Donald Trump and the relatives of exiled Iranian Prince Reza Pahlavi, citing their supposed involvement in sparking widespread demonstrations across the country.
According to a report by Iran International on January 18, 2026, a high-ranking judicial figure shared this development with government-controlled news outlets.
Hasan Abdolianpour, who leads Iran’s judicial hub for legal professionals, directly attributed the disturbances to Trump and Pahlavi.
He declared that during the latest wave of turmoil, the primary instigators include the offender Trump and the Pahlavi militant group.
Abdolianpour further explained that an official grievance has already been lodged with the chief prosecutor in Tehran, and officials plan to advance the matter through both national and global judicial systems, as detailed in the announcement.
For years, Iranian officials have pointed fingers at overseas administrations and dissidents living abroad for inciting these uprisings, claims that demonstrators and opponents of the theocratic government firmly reject.
This move comes amid escalating tensions, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also labeling Trump as responsible for deaths, destruction, and defamation tied to the ongoing clashes.
Khamenei asserted that the American leader bears guilt for the losses and harms inflicted on the Iranian people, along with false allegations against the nation.
He escalated rhetoric by accusing the U.S. president of masterminding the chaos and perpetrating offenses against Iranians.
The protests, which erupted late last month over economic hardships and governance failures, have spread to dozens of cities, drawing massive crowds chanting for change and even invoking Pahlavi’s name as a symbol of pre-revolutionary rule.
Pahlavi, son of the deposed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, has actively supported the movement from exile, outlining strategies to pressure the regime and urging swift U.S. intervention to minimize casualties. See More
