According to a report from 1:36 by Symfoni TV, on Wednesday December 17, 2025, Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has issued a staunch rejection of any form of foreign military intervention in Nigeria.

Speaking during a nationwide protest organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Lagos, Falana asserted that Nigeria possesses the domestic capacity to secure its territory and people without yielding sovereignty to foreign powers like the United States or France.

His comments come amid growing public frustration over rampant kidnapping and banditry, as well as recent international rhetoric suggesting a need for external military rescue missions in Nigeria.

Falana argued that the solution lies in government accountability and the mobilization of domestic resources rather than inviting foreign troops.

“This is not a matter that require foreign invasion of our country. We kicked against in 1962 Nigerian youths fought against the Anglo-Nigerian Defense Pact.”

The Senior Advocate referenced the historic 1962 protests against the Anglo-Nigerian Defence Pact, a movement led by Nigerian students and youths that successfully prevented the establishment of permanent British military bases on Nigerian soil shortly after independence.

Falana noted that this spirit of non-alignment and sovereignty remains central to Nigeria’s national identity.

“Since then we have resisted any attempt by France and the United States of America to have military bases in Nigeria.”

Instead of seeking external help, Falana argued that the international community and the Nigerian public must hold the federal government accountable for its constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

“This time around we are telling the whole work that the government of Nigeria be pressurized to take care of our people.”

To bolster his claim that Nigeria is capable of self-policing, Falana pointed to the nation’s storied history of stabilizing other West African countries through ECOMOG and various peacekeeping missions.

He argued that if Nigeria could restore peace in neighboring nations, it has no excuse for failing to do so within its own borders.

“Nigeria has done it in other countries. Nigeria has gone to Liberia Selon and other places to restore no another. Therefore we have the human and natural resources to protect the life and property of every person living in Nigeria.” View, More,
