According to a report by Daily Post, on Sunday, December 28, 2025, human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju lambasted Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a polarising Islamic cleric, for his disapproval of the recent United States military operations targeting insurgents in Sokoto State.

Adeyanju suggested that Gumi’s vocal distress was misplaced, especially considering that the American aerial campaign reportedly failed to eliminate any ISIS operatives within the region. The strikes, which were authorised by President Donald Trump on Christmas Day, targeted terrorist strongholds but are widely considered unsuccessful due to the lack of confirmed enemy fatalities.

Despite the apparent failure of the mission, Gumi has remained a fierce critic of the intervention, frequently dismissing the operation in various public statements. Reacting to this stance, Adeyanju took to X to question the cleric’s motivations and expressed his support for stronger international partnerships to combat the insecurity plaguing the country.

He said, “If the Donald Trump airstrike against Nigerian ISIS didn’t kill any terrorists, why is Gumi crying? Should he not be happy that all his colleagues are still alive?”

Adeyanju concluded by questioning the source of Gumi’s grief and emphasised that Nigeria requires increased cooperation with the United States to effectively suppress the brutal terrorists currently victimising the nation.
