A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Anthony Ehilebo, has expressed frustration over the recent actions of the Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected from the PDP to the APC, including Speaker Martins Amaewhule. He said their conduct shows they are not focused on serving the people who elected them.
In a video shared by News Central TV from 11.01, Ehilebo questioned what meaningful work the lawmakers have done since taking office. According to him, the Assembly has spent more time fighting, suspending one another, or dealing with crises that prevent real progress. He argued that with so little to show for their time in office, it becomes hard for ordinary citizens to believe that democracy works in their favour.
He raised further concerns about the latest decision taken by the Amaewhule-led assembly. Governor Siminalayi Fubara had already announced that he would present the state budget, but the Speaker met with his colleagues and suddenly moved the next sitting to January 26. Ehilebo said the choice makes no sense, especially when the state needs lawmakers to focus on development, not political games.
He added that the lawmakers have prioritised political battles instead of carrying out their legislative duties or fulfilling the promises they made during elections.
In his words, “The governor had said he was going to present the budget, this current speaker meets and move sitting till the 26th of January..” View, More,
