Darlington Agomou has shared his views on the political situation in Rivers State following Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. Speaking during an interview on VOP TV from 14.22, Agomou focused on the issue of external influence and control over the governor’s decisions, especially in the choice of commissioners.
According to Agomou, Fubara now holds real political power and authority, unlike before when he was widely believed to be operating under strong influence from former governor Nyesom Wike. He argued that the governor’s move to the APC has changed the balance of power and given him independence to act freely. In his view, no individual should dictate who the governor appoints or how he runs his administration.
Agomou explained that political leadership comes with the right to choose trusted allies. Just as President Bola Tinubu selected people he believed could work with him, Fubara should also be allowed to make his own choices without interference. He stressed that once a leader is elected, loyalty should be to the people and the constitution, not to a political godfather.
He further stated that this moment is crucial for Fubara to assert himself and fully take control of his government. Agomou believes that if the governor understands the power he now holds, he can free himself completely from past political pressures. He warned that continued submission to external control would mean missing a rare opportunity to lead independently.
In his words, “Fubara has deliverance of power now, except he doesn’t know how to use it. If he knows how to use it, this is the time to pull the rug under Wike’s feet.” View, More,
