Political analyst Dr. Majeed Dahiru has suggested that members of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration who opposed President Bola Tinubu’s election may have been involved in the foiled coup as an alternative plan to prevent his presidency.

Speaking in an interview from 12:38 with Nigerian Info FM, Dr. Dahiru expressed concern about the implications of the Defence Minister’s revelations regarding the alleged conspirators’ identities. “The revelation given by the Minister of Defence is one that is most concerning for me, given the identity of the alleged coupists. Could it be that the members of the Buhari administration who clearly did not support Tinubu even within the government and the APC, had the coup as Plan B,” he said.

The political analyst called for expanding the investigation’s scope, noting that most of the implicated officers hail from northern Nigeria, the same region as the previous administration. According to Dr. Dahiru, the Buhari government, demonstrated tepid support for Tinubu during both the APC primaries and the general election.

He highlighted that only certain individuals within the northern establishment actively supported Tinubu’s presidential bid, including former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.
