Lagos State Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh has alleged that some women who made sexual abuse allegations against Liberation City leader Pastor Chris Okafor are married.
Speaking in an interview from 6:52 with Channels TV, Commissioner Jimoh outlined measures to protect complainants in the case. “We learned that some of them are equally married but we are yet to verify that—so we are going to protect their identity, not only at the level of the police, but equally give them security, because we have the right under the law to protect our complainants to ensure that no harm comes their way. So we want people to have the boldness to come out and come and substantiate all their complaints and put pen to paper about it so that we can go further in the investigation,” he said.
CP Jimoh stressed that all investigative and prosecutorial procedures will adhere strictly to legal requirements while respecting the rights of the accused. “Nothing is an offense except what the law states to be an offense. And the law stating the offense will clearly state the procedure for which an offender should be handled, and equally will tell you what are the facts in issue to prove such an offense,” Commissioner Jimoh stated.
