The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, Rev. Dr. Joseph Hayab, has accused security operatives of complicity in the recent mass kidnapping in Kaduna State.
According to report by VANGUARD on Wednesday January 21, 2026, Hayab condemned the failure of security agents to pursue bandits who abducted 177 worshippers from ECWA Church and Cherubim and Seraphim Churches in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area.
He explained that security personnel delayed action and even questioned whether the abduction had occurred, giving the attackers time to move their victims into hiding.
Hayab emphasized that immediate pursuit could have forced the criminals to abandon their mission, but hesitation only strengthened their position.
He further alleged that the actions of the security agents indirectly assisted the bandits by allowing them to relocate the victims to a concealed location where demands could be made.
The revelation of the identities of the 177 abducted individuals has sparked outrage across Nigeria, with citizens demanding urgent government intervention to curb the worsening insecurity in Kaduna State.
He said: “If the security agents had gone after the bandits, they would have prevented them from taking the victims to where they are now hiding. Instead, the security agents only helped the bandits move the victims to a place where they could conceal them and make their demands.” See More
