Elder Bitrus Davo of the Barkin Ladi Ropp district in Plateau State has given a harrowing account of a violent attack by suspected bandits and terrorists, describing how his community was left devastated.

Speaking on the WithChude podcast from 0:15, Davo detailed the scale and brutality of the assault, which forced many residents to flee for their lives.

According to Davo, the attackers stormed the village in large numbers, engaging in indiscriminate shooting before looting and destroying property. “They entered the village burning everywhere, looting our properties, carrying goats, cows shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’,” he recounted. The violence reportedly left homes, farmlands, and household belongings destroyed, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

The elder explained that many residents escaped into surrounding bushes and neighbouring areas to avoid being caught in the attack. Livestock, which many families depend on for sustenance and livelihood, was carried away by the assailants, further deepening the economic impact of the raid. He described the attackers’ coordinated movements and use of intimidation as key factors in the community’s inability to defend itself.

Davo also lamented the psychological toll of the attack, noting that fear now grips the village as residents worry about potential future incursions. The traumatic experience has left families displaced, and urgent humanitarian assistance is needed to help victims rebuild their homes and restore a sense of security.

Barkin Ladi Ropp, like many rural areas in Plateau State, has experienced repeated incidents of banditry and terrorist activity in recent years. Through his interview on the WithChude podcast, Davo appealed to government authorities and security agencies to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities, prevent further attacks, and provide immediate relief for those affected by the violence.
